I'm running FC3 with the following RPMs installed:
mplayer-gui-1.0pre6-1
mplayer-codecs-win32-20040704-1
mplayer-codecs-linux-real-20040626-1
mplayer-codecs-linux-xanim-20040626-1
mplayer-codecs-win32-indeo-20040704-1
mplayer-vidix-nVidia-1.0pre6-1
mplayer-1.0pre6-1
mplayer-codecs-win32-qt-extras-20040704-1
mplayer-codecs-linux-xanim-3ivx-20040704-1
mplayer-codecs-win32-mjpeg2k-20040704-1
mplayer-vidix-1.0pre6-1
mplayer-codecs-win32-real-20041107-1
mplayer-codecs-win32-qt-20041107-1
mplayer-codecs-win32-dmo-20041107-1
...and some fonts and skins.

I have some old *.rm files that I am trying to convert to mp3.
I start with:
mplayer -ao pcm <filename>.rm
and then use lame to convert it to mp3.

Most of the files work fine, but with a few I get the results below. The
audiodump.wav file is created with zero bytes.

One additional note: If I type mplayer <filename>.rm the file will play
perfectly.

Again, this is only for a few of the files I'm trying to convert. Most work
just fine.

Thanks for any help/advice.
