These messages appear to me as lircd hasn'ät been started and, therefore, mplayer can't open the socket it creates so communicate with software.
Are you sure you've started lircd (and set up everything before right, otherwise it might spontaneously die when
it gets its first call, iirc.)
If you _have_ started lircd and it works fine, i e with ircat, perhaps the socket's been placed somewhere different from what mplayer expects. In that case, I'd advice you try and find out where it's created.
