[MPlayer-users] Trouble getting my SBLive! to work with my SPDIF & AC3

Greetings all,

	I've tried to research this problem, and this mailing list seems to be the 
last resort. I have Suse 8.0 (Kernel 2.4.18) and I have SBLive! and the SPDIF 
is connected to an external Dolby Digital 5.1 Decoder. 

Sounds plays fine under ALSA 0.9, but I can't get the hardware AC3 to work. I 
read in the DOCs that my sound card must support AFMT_AC3 format, but I 
really don't know how to check that, or even how to enable it.

When I try the following for exmaple

mplayer -ao alsa9 -ac hwac3 -dvd 1

I get a cracking high pitch sound. I'm not sure if I missed anything.
