[Mplayer-dvb] VDR-Plugin-Suggestion: MPlayer

Hi,

as I think many of you are writing on I/O-Plugins, I got the idea this
could be a waste of time.

We have a quite good MediaPlayer for Linux (MPlayer), which can
input/output nearly any kind of A(/V)-format or -codec (great
/de-)muxer-functions) and handle nearly any kind of output-devices (DVB,
DXR3, FBdev, XV, SDL, OSS, ALSA, ARTS, ...). It also can handle DVD,
MP3, ... and - it has OSD-functions!

So why not make complete MPlayer to a VDR-Plugin?

All that stuff like MP3, DVD, SVCD, ... could be handled by that
MPlayer-Plugin.

In VDR's OSD/config-file could be a definition which output to use,
e.g.:

[MPlayer-output]
default="DVB"
DVB="-vo mpegpes -ao mpegpes -aid 0 -vop dvbscale ... "
XV/OSS="-vo xv -ao oss -aid 0 -fs ... "
...

In the OSD only a option OUTPUT would have the choices between "DVB" or
"XV/OSS" ...

Is anyone out there who has enough knowledge of VDR- and MPlayer-sources
to do that? Maybe ARPI can give a hand, and maybe that plugin-extension
could make it into the MPlayer-CVS (with compile-option like
'--enable-VDR-plugin').

Any comments?

Rene
