If the user explicitly specifies -xineramascreen then workarounds
specific to xinerama would be justified, but I don't think that case
should dictate all window placement in MPlayer. I agree with the
original poster that by default MPlayer should not try to override the
window manager. If a window manager is broken then the user should
explicitly configure MPlayer to work around it; the default should not
be to force users of working window managers to work around MPlayer's
brokenness.
