IMO the inherent problem is much deeper: that it comes from the
incompetent folks at freedesktop.org who know nothing but Windows and
Mac and simply want to rebuild their familiar bloated Windows/Mac
environment on top of Linux.

Good luck knocking some sense into them. However IMO they care more
about "l33t c0mp0z1t tr4nsp4r3nc33 l0l0l!!!!111oneoe!!" than making a
system that actually works correctly according to the design and
philosophy of Unix and X, so expect a tough time...
