I'd really like to finish that stuff if it get a chance to come in cvs.
Keep in mind that this an RFC, the patch is not meant to get as is in cvs.
It's just there to show where i'm heading and to (try to) get ppl to say
what they think about it. Good, bad, awful ?
Ok the parent mail is way too verbose, so here is a quick list of what i want
to achieve on the "core" side:
1) Cleanup the osd messages mess. Having 100's of variable is lame and
it's bcs of this that some stuff still have no feedback on the osd.
This is fairly easy to do and also open the way to display the messages
somewhere else (like on the console for audio-only mode or to a pipe so
frontend can integrate them in their gui, etc).
2) Having an API to set _and_ query things. It should allow frontends and
the osd menu to be able to manipulate everthing correctly w/o big hacks
and/or needing to implement 100's of get_this and get_that commands.
If the patch is really too hard to digest i can try to split it (ie: first
the osd part, then the property stuff). Althought that would mean a lot of
useless work (bcs quiet some code would have to be changed in one step to
be just removed in the next), i could do it if that help getting feedback.
