yes, but, who has any .ttf file having chars for _all_ (at least european)
languages? and what about various chinese/korean/russian sets?

or we should make a font manager, importing many localized version of the
same font (for example arial.ttf from various localized windows versions)
and making an uniqe set of them?

i still say: allow users to pass their own .ttf and mplayer should runtime
build the font from that. maybe save most common sets in something called
font cache, max size limited in config file :)
it only means depedency on libft2, but it can be acceptable imho, especially
as XF 4.x includes it by default (dunno if built-in static or lib*.so form?).

most ttf files usually has builtin codepage tables for both unicode and the
supported language, so if the user uses the right ttf he don't need iconv at
all.
