[MPlayer-dev-eng] seek/startpos in mencoder

hey, i was trying to extract a small intensive clip out of a divx
movie i have yesterday in order to use it for performance testing, and
i found that mencoder doesn't seem to have any option for starting at
a particular position in the source file, only -endpos to end encoding
before the end of the source file. what is involved in adding a
-startpos or -ss/-sb option? i might look into this -- it sounds like
it might be really useful for editing commercials out of recordings or
something, among other things.
