Why three more passes? It should just be one extra pass. But I get
what you mean, I supposed it's nice to be able to do both at the same
time if you're ripping subs and encoding.

Yeah I know, that's how I would do it. Just not the most intuitive
IMO. Once mencoder progresses, it will probably eventually be able to
do things like stream dumping, vobsub dumping, mpsub dumping, etc.
without going through the normal encoding process, but right now it
seems a little clunky. Not your fault, it's more that mencoder started
out as a quick hack.
