"advanced" has nothing to do with it.  keyint only matters for "rewind"

It's a completely linear trade-off.  Half as many keyframes, and it'll
take twice as long to seek backwards.  You just have to pick the balance
that you like. 

If you're editing videos, keyint=1 is preferable, but files will be
huge, and higgly unadvisable for distribution.  If you need to seek
backwards all the time, maybe 15 (or 30) would be a good trade-off.  If
you only occasionally need it, or don't think those you distribute the
video to will need it, you should really go for a large value, like
300, and just put up with the occasionally slow seeking.
