[MEncoder-users] MEncoder on windows - codec directory

Hi,

I had problems with mencoder from
MPlayer-mingw32-dev-CVS-050928, codecs from
windows-all-20050412.zip, running on Win2k SP4.
Problem solved - solution below may be interesting for 
others...

Seems that MEncoder doesn't look in the codecs directory,
which it should do according to the documentation,
(but MPlayer does).

I had to copy the required codec - wmv9dmod.dll - from the
codecs directory into the mplayer directory - alongside 
mencoder.exe and mplayer.exe.

I had used mplayer -dumpstream to create a file stream.wmv.
MPlayer played this file fine - sound and video OK.

But when I tried to convert to .mpg using mencoder I got
messages about codec problems:
IMediaObject ERROR: 009C7700 could not open DMO DLL (0x0:0)
Failed to create DMO filter
ERROR: Could not open required DirectShow codec 
wmv9dmod.dll.

Copying the codec wmv9dmod.dll into the mplayer directory
solved the problem. 

(PS - hope this isn't double posted - am having email 
problems)
