it's recent enough. What's the content of your ~/.mplayer/channels.conf?
do you know that mplayer interprets the diseqc parameter differently 
from szap?
it has to be either 0 (no diseqc) or n=1..4 where n is the lnb position 
(e.g. 1 for position 1
and so on).
If after verifying this config the problem persists post me the 
compressed log  of

mplayer -v dvb://ZDF

please.
