Thanks for your help, I tried this version, but it also fails.
I think there are many issues concerning cygwin/mingw when compiling
mplayer. I am doing this now for about nearly two years using cygwin, but
the mixture between cygwin and mingw (you can install the mingw headers
when you use the cygwin setup.exe) is very opaque to me so I think a lot
of problems caused by undefined references are regressing to this mixture.

I also have the fontconfig problem described by Rafael Mattos.
Although I made the same steps like John Browns says, fontconfig is also
not recognized by configure due to lots of undefined reference errors.

I always had only a short look to this site, but it's really great.

What do you think is the better way compiling mplayer on win32:
choosing cygwin or mingw?
