Hi, I will first quote from the mencoder manual.

 -audio-density <1-50>
Number of audio chunks per second (default is 2 for 0.5s
long
              audio chunks).
NOTE: CBR only, VBR ignores this as it puts each packet in a
new
              chunk.

I am wondering what is the best setting to use when using mencoder to create
an XviD avi with AC3 audio.

Lets say the source is a PAL DVD (25 fps)

Then the audio density default would be, 2 chunks per 25 frames (second).

I have heard that interleaving settings for AC3 is best at 1 chunk per 2 or
3 frames.

So : 25/2 = 12.5 chunks a second
Or : 25/3 = 8.33 chunks per second.

These figures are a lot larger than the default.
What do you guys recommend?

Cheers
