Hi, if I'm not wrong, your MPlayer try to display on the framebuffer. In others 
words, on a TTY window. I guess it's not what you want. I may be one of the 
last person on earth doing this on my old "General dynamics Itronix GObook"(and 
I'm amazed that it works not so bad!

A good maner to show people how many things we can do in a Linux console and 
how much I can be nerdy).

You should try to put options to force it to use one the X-window based display 
mode, and if it doesn't work, it should give you a clue about what is 
missing(probably an X video driver or a MPlayer module)
