I am using MPlayer 1.4-9, (Fedora 31 package) When playing a video, if I press CTRL-P to get the progress bar and time elapsed info, what gets shown is a mess. The characters are shown twice, on top of each other, with vertical stripes through them. I can attach an image if that would be helpful.
