Hi there

This is a quick message to praise MPlayer, and to thank the community for your help in getting things set up for what was an important night for me.

On Sunday evening (24th) I presented a screening of Abel Gance’s 1927 silent classic film, Napoléon. There was a small but enthusiastic and well informed audience of around 20. For those of you who don’t know the film, it is in 4 parts, and over 5 and a half hours long. A screening is typically an all day event, with coffee and meal breaks. Most of the film I played directly from Blu-ray, but the final act requires something a bit more elaborate, as it contains a triptych section, utilising 3 screens and 3 synchronised projectors. With little or no budget, I could not afford to rent the specialist equipment that a cinema might use. But I found MPlayer, and was able to synchronise 3 media pcs (using -udp master/slave). I also bitstreamed the DTS sound track.

MPlayer worked faultlessly, and the overall effect was truly spectacular with the film spread across 3 2.4m screens.

Several users helped me with suggestions along the way, which helped get to a setup that worked without a glitch.

So thanks to everyone involved in the project in the past, and for the support these days

Many thanks

Paul Strickland
