[MPlayer-users] Error Tolerant reading of dvd-Track

Hi,

Is the DVD scratched? If so, use a soft cloth or cottonball (like those
used to remove makeup) dipped in water to polish the surface of the DVD.
Only rub between center and edge, not along the tracks. Scratches in the
same direction as the tracks can upset the tracking of the laser.

I usually sit down to watch a movie while polishing a scratched DVD
because it can be so boring, since it has to be done over quite a long
time to really have a good effect. I've repaired many previously
unreadable, badly scratched, second-hand DVDs this way.

On the other hand, writeable DVDs will gradually lose their data. I'm
not sure how to help there. Maybe getting the data off the DVD first
might help. I don't know if the dd command (in Linux) can help. Someone
else might know more.

Cheers,

     - Miriam
