Hi,

I am assuming you are building with a current svn trunk version of
MPlayer. (Should be the case because else building against GIFLIB
version 5 should not have been possible, e.g. fail or GIF support
should have been disabled by configure.)

  It should be all fine!

Currently expected output with version 5 is:

Checking for GIF support ... yes (old version, some encoding functions disabled)
Checking for broken giflib workaround ... disabled

Where the first message is misleading unfortunately. The mentioned
disabled encoding functions are only about adding the netscape looping
extenstion and should work correctly with GIFLIB 5 none the less. If
not, please let me know.

You can easily test by encoding a gif animation with vo gif89a and
loading it with the browser. If it loops then no "encoding functions"
are disabled and everything is fine.

I am sorry this was an oversight on my end. I noticed the problem
once but forgot about it soon after. Thank you for reporting; I will
try to commit a fix soon.

Would be nice if you could reply again and tell me if everything is
working as expected. To let you know I will reply here again after
fixing configure.
