[MPlayer-users] filter (scale) failover

Playing videos, most of the time

-vf scale=800:-2

seems to work best, but occasionally I come across a video
scaled slightly larger than 600 for height,
and what seems best is


-vf scale=-2:600

Is there some way to have it fail to this within
mplayer settings?
Is there a better way?
