I see from http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/codecs-status.html that the qtaic decoder is "New/Untested". 

What steps do I take to enable the qtaic decoder?

I'm running Mac OS X 10.6 on a 64-bit Intel processor. Note from Quicktime.h: /* QuickTime is not available to 64-bit clients */
