- -idx or -forceidx are probably not good options if you are playing a
file that is being downloaded since you may have trouble seeking past
content that was downloaded after mplayer originally opened the file.
This may not be the case now, but it was about a year ago. I believe
that the -cache option also has trouble with local files that are
changing during playback.

I ran into this when trying to use these options with mplayerplug-in and
gecko-mediaplayer/gnome-mplayer.
