With Alsa, both the "Line" and "Capture" devices must be marked as
"Captur" and non-zero volume (though they can be muted).  No clue about
Pluse, nor do I care to find out (ugh! Alsa is bad enough on its
own...).

And use a real audio codec, like PCM at worst...  not "copy".
