1) I think not. It's $HOME/.mplayer or the global config in
/usr/local/share/...
2) The font directory could be elsewhere, as long as you create a symlink to
   the font directory you want to use (the one that contains the font.desc
file)
   That is well explained in Subtitles/OSD Section of the DOCS.
