[MPlayer-users] How to control mplayer when in background?

I am on Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon x64

How does one control the play, pause, seek, etc. controls when soome 
other application has focus.

Can we have global keys to control the playback of mplayer.
 I have dedicated media keys on my keyboard, how can I use them to 
control MPlayer even when it is not the foreground application?
