I've tried. -autosync >=1 makes it a bit better, but it's still totally 
unacceptable.

I am using 1.0.rc2svn20071207-0.2 from www.debian-multimedia.org. Will try 
recent SVN.

I failed to mention that it's not only choppy sound, but video playback 
gets slowed down, too.
