This is simply what your driver/hardware supports. You are lucky, my
Geforce 7... can not even change brightness or contrast with -vo xv.
In my case using the binary drivers with vo=gl:yuv=4:lscale=1 is a
workaround (even allows changing gamma).
Other possibilities are using -vo gl2 (uses a different method) or
-vf eq2 (does it in software so might be slow).
