In that case, why not omit the -endpos, and just
'mplayer -ao pcm...' and quit after3 minutes? If you don't want to
stare at your PC for that time, you could probably write a script to
kill MPlayer after 3 minutes, but it would take me more than 3
minutes to work out how to do it.
