1) figure out with the help of configure.log why vidix drivers aren't
compiled on your system. Use them if it is possible, they are realy
fast and cvidix don't require X11.
2) You can use these video outputs on non-X11 system:
cvidix,
fbdev,fbdev2,
directfb,
svga,vesa,ggi.
Some of them requires external libraries, please refer to documentation
and always check your configure.log for troubleshooting.
There are also dga and sdl but they are hardly or unmaintained.
aa and caca are funny but not usable for high quality videos.
Also there are some hardware-specific vo's.
