[MPlayer-users] Why can't I watch HD videos?

I tried to play one of this HD videos in windows, with mplayer (1.0pre8) and I 
can see it perfectly! CPU load was about 65%

But the most surprisingly for me has been when I played some normal videos 
(640x480 and 512x384), it only use 5% of the CPU. In linux the 640x480 video 
takes about 35% of CPU and the 512x384 about 25%.

What does it make that big difference?

Mplayer is the same, isn't it? The same code. So why in windows is much 
faster?
