No, not at all.  I simply didn't realize you specifically wanted MPlayer
without support for most formats/codecs.  That kind of thing is usually
a mistake, not intentional.

Well, we know why you don't have sound.  That might be contributing to
the problem.  You likely want to use "-ao alsa" (or "-nosound").

Strange.

My only other guess is that this might be a VIA-specific issue.  You can
try changing the CFLAGS to the bar minimum.  Or you can try to find
which SVN revision started causing this issue.
