Well, obviously. -ao pcm is just going to dump the output to a PCM  
(WAV) file.

With exeception to the bit about ALSA, confirmed on Mac OS X 10.4.6  
(with the CVS Snapshot Tarballs).

I think it's an MPlayer bug. I've noticed that MPlayer tends to lop  
off the last few fractions of a second when playing short files. MP3,  
WAV, or otherwise.
