Ok, I got a bad case of "user misunderstanding" ;-).

The correct line (which works with mplayer pre8 or CVS) is:

  mplayer -ac hwdts -ao alsa dvd://1 -aid 138 

Note that specifying alsa device is a bad idea (as mentionned in
mplayer's man page)

This also works:

  mplayer -afm hwac3 -ao alsa dvd://1 -aid 138

Note also that you need to specify the audio id of the DTS (or ac3)
track.
