It's probably not a bug, but just an unsupported feature. Given that  
MPlayer is coded by a bunch of people who do this mostly in their  
free time, and don't get paid for it, I feel rather fortunate that  
MPlayer supports all that it does already!

It's entirely possible this is another unsupported feature. I've  
never had the problem you're describing, however. I've had subtitles  
that have successfully been extracted and played back (Stored on the  
disk as a VobSub) where text appears at the top and bottom of the  
screen. As far as color, I haven't tried this with any colored  
subtitles.

Given time, yes. However, I think the coders have higher priorities,  
such as getting MPlayer to read interlaced H.264 streams that the  
Beeb seems to want to broadcast, and finalizing the NUT spec.
