[MPlayer-users] input fifo file in background

I wish to run mplayer similiar to:
"mplayer -quiet -input file=/tmp/fifo -loop 0 video.mpg &"

If I run without the "&" it works - as soon as I put the "&" on
the command it gives me an error about /dev/rtc.

How can I run mplayer in the background in this manner with
the -input switch??
