Well, it's a kinda the same on FC: they came up w/ Debian equivalents called yum
and up2date. So i had to only build a few apps from source. Adobe Acrobat native
installer didn't do so good though, and acroread doesn't run on FC5, after my
one attempt. It's probably meant for gcc3.
I'm considering giving Debian a try (w/ all of its 14 CDs compared to 4 for FC),
but it's not likely to resolve my issue with DMA on TSSTcorpCD-RW/DVD-ROM
TSL462C, i think. It appears to be a kernel problem that first needs to be
addressed upstream. And if that's the case, and i have to mess w/ a custom
kernel to get DMA, then it probably won't be much use changing the distro. In
fact, it might be worth just waiting for this to be fixed upstream by folks who
work on it. It doesn't appear to be fixed on 2.6.14-1.1632 and 2.6.14-1.1647 FC
kernels.

Thanks.
