If this keeps happening, i'll consider Debian.
In the meantime, here's something looking fishy in alsa ao (doesn't affect other
ao choices which don't work on this laptop either, but my previous laptop uses
alsa too):

Notice that my alsa version is 1.0.10rc1, but ao alsa version says 0.9.x-1.x.
Has anybody seen such output and mplayer actually working on such a system? Or
rather, how likely is it to work in such a case?
