Before I comment on your guide, let me address a small issue you mentioned.

If there are any problems building the RPMs, I'll be happy to offer
assistance in solving them.

If there's any missing custom compile feature, I'll be happy to add
it, too.

As far as I can see, there are very few real reasons to build MPlayer
directly from source and not from SRPM.
