[MPlayer-users] jpeg to avi has blank frames and sticks to first frame

I am trying to covert jpeg images from my webcam into a movie using the 
following command.

mencoder mf://\*.JPG -mf fps=4:type=jpg -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4 
-oac copy -o output.avi

It processes 152 files (IMAGE.00000.JPG - IMAGE.00152.JPG). See mencoder 
output below.

However, there are two problems:

   1. between each frame there is a short "black or blank" frame.
   2. mplayer replays the first image over and over for the duration of
      the movie

I can't seem to spot the problem
