These packages are unoffical, and his way of compiling/packaging thinks
has caused already a few problems in the past.

Subtitles in mkv or ogg won't work with bitmap fonts, at least not
without some extra effort (see
http://bugzilla.mplayerhq.hu/show_bug.cgi?id=199)

You will of course have to use the -subcp option, how should MPlayer
otherwise knwo which encoding you used?
The proper way to solve this IMHO is using a ttf font that supports full
utf8 and muxing the subtitles in UTF8 format (Matroska actually forces
this).
