[MPlayer-users] IFO error anybody?

MPlayer won't play DVDs, giving the error message:

libdvdread: Invalid title IFO (VTS_01_0.IFO).
Cannot open the IFO file for DVD title 1

I've been scouring several troubleshooting blogs and 
the like, and it seems as if a few people have had this
problem, see e.g.

Has anybody got any ideas on how to fix this problem?
It's got me at a loss, though it doesn't look so serious.
