Not really.  Set arts to release the audio device immedately, then you
can use -ao oss or -ao alsa without any problem.

That is strange, particularly because you are using Slackware, where
packages always include the headers and other dev contents.  Did you
perhaps install KDE from some source other than the Slackware packages?
