[MPlayer-users] Creating mp4-files for Apples' ipod with MPlayer

Wow! Just a couple of hours ago and so many helpful answers! Thanks to all 
who replied!!!

Okay. So, let me sum this up a bit to see if I got the point.

First, mp4 is a container file, Apple-proprietary. Well, I must admit I 
really took this for a statement about the codec that was used to produce 
the stream. Seems I was wrong.

Second, Mplayer is basically able to do that job but cannot produce a 100% 
stream/container that identifies properly to Apple software. Hence:

Third, only VLC is up to the challenge.

And according to 'hco', MPlayer won't do it for the time being.

Am I right? - Anyway, I'll try what you suggested and will come back with 
results, mencoder outputs and the command line.
