Hello,
I've browsed various forums and the mailing list for someone with a
similar problem, however I haven't come across anything. I'm hoping
someone might have an idea as to what's up.
Whenever I use mplayer to try and play just about any sort of video
(DVD, DivX or XviD encoded AVI, MPG, etc) I get a very noticable amount
of noise in the form of blue, red, and green pixels along with vertical
lines of distortion. Occasionally the audio playback will also pop a
bit. I've gotten this even with brand new DVDs played for the first
time, so I don't think it's just poorly encoded files causing this. The
only codec I seem to have minimal amounts of noise with would be
quicktime, although I don't use that codec all that frequently. So, who
knows.
As for the setup:
GeForce FX 5600 on FreeBSD 5.3-RELEASE with the following installed from
ports:
xorg-6.7.0_1
nvidia-driver-1.06113_2
mplayer-1.0pre5-3.4.2
win32-codecs-2.1.0p5
A sample run with a DVD provides the following:
mplayer -vo x11 -vop hqdn3d dvd://1

I get the same results with or without the hqdn3d filter. I've noticed
the error concerning the colorspace tends to come up with almost every
file, so that might be it. But I haven't found anything about what to do
concerning that.
If this is something obvious, mea culpa. :) Thanks in advance for any help.
