mplayer -vo xv Cd1/dvp-awcd1.avi -sub Around.The.World.In.80.Days.DVDRip.XViD-DvP.CD1.srt -fs -vf expand=0:-100 -subpos 100
that last :1 with expand makes only sense with vos that don't support
subtitles themselves (like older versions of gl).
-zoom makes only sense with vos that can't do hardware scaling,
certainly not xv or gl.
