Hi,
I am trying to watch TV from a different computer than the one with the
capture card. Here's what I do:
Penguin (the computer with the capture card):
Linux From Scratch 3.2rc1
Kernel 2.4.26
KDE 3.1.2
mplayer dev-CVS-040520-14:38-2.95.3
Capture card: PCI Bt878 (bttv, tuner, btaudio, v4l2-common, etc...)
The capture card's line out is connected to the audio card's line in by means
of an external 3,5mm short stereo cable. The audio card is an au8820. Its
driver is OSS-compatible (aureal.sf.net) version 1.1.2
mplayer was compiled with the following options:
./configure --prefix=/opt/mplayer --enable-gui
--with-win32libdir=/opt/codecs/mplayer --with-codecsdir=/opt/codecs/mplayer
--with-xmmsplugindir=/usr/local/lib/xmms --enable-libfame
--confdir=/etc/mplayer --enable-menu
Walker (client computer)
Linux From Scratch 5.0
Kernel 2.4.26
KDE 3.2.1
Audio: alsa snd-ali5451
from Walker I do:
virgil at Walker:~$ artsd -p 58345 -u &
virgil at Walker:~$ ssh penguin
virgil at Penguin:~$ export ARTS_SERVER=Walker:58345
virgil at Penguin:~$ mplayer -tv
device=/dev/video/video0:driver=v4l2:input=1:width=352:height=240 -ao arts
tv://
... and on Walker I get the TV screen but the sound is still heard on Penguin.
For -ao I also tried oss (with artsdsp) but that didn't help.
By contrast, something like:
virgil at Penguin:~$ noatun test.mp3
or even
virgil at Penguin:~$ artsdsp madplay /home/virgil/music/test.mp3
work perfectly, with the sound being heard on Walker.
A very interesting thing is that while I was on Penguin (not remotely logged
in) I killed the arts server on Penguin, and then I ran the same command:
virgil at Penguin:~$ mplayer -tv
device=/dev/video/video0:driver=v4l2:input=1:width=352:height=240 -ao arts
tv://
... and I got sound in the (local) speakers, although there was no artsd
running.
Also note that this happens for both input=1 and input=0:freq=some.freq
What to do... what to do...
If anyone has some insightful information on this problem, please write me a
line or two.
Virgil
