[MPlayer-users] gcc configure problem

I am trying to install MPlayer.  Unfortunately I am running Mandrake 8.1
with the gcc-2.94 compiler. I downloaded gcc-3.2.3 and expanded it.
The HTML doc on gcc-2.94 says: "Then you can configure gcc in the
build directory, but you need to configure from the source directory
     cd gcc-build
      ..//gcc-3.XXX/configure"
I have created gcc-build, and my XXX is 3.2.3. But nothing  I have
tried, including variations on the ./configure command works.
Any suggestions?
