most standalone divx players don't understand (often they don't show 
anything) mpeg4 video
with custom aspect ratios in the video stream (as lavc and xvid can do);
mine understands a limited subset of odml aspect ratios, that you can 
store in avi
using  -force-avi-aspect x/y
