I am pretty sure that problems 2) and 3) has connection to the (***) error
messages because when I tried to play it with -ao oss, it went OK (that means
better :)

I suspect some misconfiguration of ALSA subsystem, but this problem appears
after upgrading to the version 1.0.1 of ALSA. It worked fine before.

cat /etc/asound.conf:

pcm.Audigy2 {
type hw
card 0
device 0
}

ctl.Audigy2 {
type hw
card 0
device 0
}
